FOR BIRTH PARENTS

OVERVIEW – CREATE AN ADOPTION PLAN

If you are pregnant and considering adoption because you are not ready to become a parent, the decision to place your child for adoption can be an intense and life-changing one for you both. The path you take is up to you and you alone. As the birth parent(s), you have the responsibility and the right to decide what will be in your child’s best interest. Participating in the adoption process and allowing us to help you create an adoption plan, means that you are taking control of your child’s future and give them the gift of a loving, stable home that you have chosen for them.

Our highly experienced staff is prepared to discuss your concerns and fears. Answer all of your questions. And walk you through the process. If you require additional support, we offer counseling with a licensed therapist.

Your involvement in the adoption process depends on your needs. Once you have chosen the adoptive parent(s), the Caring Adoptions staff will work with both parties to ensure a mutual understanding of the adoption plan details.

When it comes to the steps to complete the adoption for your child, you are the only person qualified to make this decision for yourself and your baby. Everyone’s process and experience are different, but Caring Adoptions believes you should be able to decide the following:

  • The type of adoption – open, semi-open, or closed
  • The extent of contact with the adopting parents during the pre-delivery process
  • The adopting parent’s involvement at the hospital
  • The frequency of information and photographs exchanged with the adoptive family following placement

Know that you are entirely in control of this process. The route you take is up to you. We support what you want and what feels right for you and your child.

Caring Adoptions Staff will guide you through designing your Individualized Adoption Plan.

  • Include living expenses you identify, such as financial, medical, housing, and transportation.
  • Be flexible and include your desires regarding independent living, the type of adoption (semi-open, open, or closed), and adoptive parent criteria.
  • Offer confidential counseling with staff members experienced in working with birth parents or with an independent licensed professional.

Birthparents Choose the Adoptive Parents

Your Individualized Adoption Plan not only includes details about living expenses and the choice between open and closed adoption but plays an integral role in selecting potential adoptive parent profiles. The plan includes the criteria you want for your child’s future parents. It guides our staff in selecting possible adoptive parents for you to review.

Like many expectant mothers looking for adoptive parents, you might be feeling anxious about not finding the perfect family. Our Caring Adoption specialists are there to support you through it all.

“(Caring Adoptions) didn’t judge me and made sure my children went to a good family of my choice. Stephanie helped with my medical and living situation.

Birthparents Choose the Type of Adoption

You select your level of involvement in the adoption process by choosing the type of adoption:

  • Open – Complete identifying information exchanged; ongoing contact both pre-and post-placement
  • Semi-open – Some identifying information shared; meet either pre-delivery or at the hospital; direct communication following placement as discussed between both parties; ongoing exchange of pictures and letters, usually through the agency
  • Closed – No identifying information shared; no contact before or after adoption; no ongoing information of child shared
  • Designated – Birthparent independently selects adoptive parents

Caring Adoptions staff work with both you and the adoptive parents to negotiate the terms of contact in the relationship, both “pre” and “post” placement. The staff will work to ensure the agreements are honored by both parties.

Support services are available to you as the birthparent, plus support for children you may be parenting.

You have made many decisions and plans at this point with Caring Adoptions walking you through every step. You have designed an adoption plan, picked the adoptive parents or family that has met the criteria you want for your baby’s future, and decided on the type of adoption that best meets your needs; open, semi-open, closed, or designated adoption.

When women face an untimely or unwanted pregnancy, one of the main concerns can be finances. They want to know if they can receive pay for for adoption in Texas. The answer is no. Or, is it free to place a child for adoption in Texas? Yes, it is.

While a birth mother considering adoption can have expenses provided for free, there is no state in the U.S. where she can receive payment for adoption. If an agency attempts to pay for a baby, know that this is against federal law.

However, adoption agencies in Texas do offer financial assistance for adoption.

Texas Adoption Law outlines allowable expenses that can be covered on behalf of the potential birth mother, like adoption counseling, legal fees, medical services, etc.

To get more specific information on the expenses covered throughout the adoption process, please fill out this contact form so that a Caring Adoptions staff member can help answer your adoption cost questions.

If you are concerned about your financial stability, talk to your Caring Adoption staff member about expenses you may need help with.

Pregnancy-related expenses you may be eligible to have covered include:

  • payments directly to you for food, clothing, transportation, and other allowable costs
  • transportation when other sources are not available
  • payments to service providers such as landlords, doctors, and utilities
  • assisting with the set-up of services and independent living
  • birthfather location and termination of rights
  • coordination with adoptive parents
  • pre-natal education and counseling
  • hospital coordination
  • counseling, as requested, with a licensed professional
